Away from the plains : My small time sojourn to The Himalayas…The beginning..

Howrah Station:

Surprise! I am back. πŸ™‚

Hope you have had the humane experiences of life going to your favour. I have also been working my way through the ups and downs of life while looking for the slightest chance to run away to places I have never been to. So far, despite wanting to reduce, I have put on more weight than I can explain and same goes for the running away to places part. πŸ˜€

However, as an exception, I found myself hopping onto a train to Haridwar from Howrah station recently. The reason being a visit to two of the most sacred shrines for Hindus , Kedarnath and Badrinath. The traveller in me took exactly 0.34 seconds to wake up and start observing and documenting everything. Out of the sheer enthusiasm, I forgot that I had been to the station several times of my life and been standing under that clock since I started to walk. I even took photos if it!

As the train started its journey, the familiar became different due to a change of perspective! Same stations looked different from the running train.

Old station, new perspective!

The first night at the train seemed to be an exhilarating experience with all sorts of people coming together inside a dumpster being pulled by an engine. Β The more the night went on, the more people entered into the reserved compartment. They felt every bit at home! πŸ˜€

Off-course, there were some amazing moments where it felt as if a frame had frozen in front of me waiting to be captured. Despite my inhibition and fear of street photography, I tried my best to sneak a shot or two.

Then there were people, all sorts of them ranging from elderly couple going for vacation to a Babaji travelling without ticket to businessmen trying to network. And it was the best, worst mix of people there was. It was hot and dusty and crowded and tiring, but at the same time, it was delightful, forgiving, happy mix of individuals on a mission to reach different destination for achieving different goals. I was happy as well, because my vacation had already started! πŸ™‚

More on the next post! πŸ™‚
