I travel. As a hobby, as a passion and as a person willing to explore new places. But what travel brings to us, is whole new memories to cherish. I present three memories of people, who helped create those memories and remain to me as people who are #madeofgreat
Place: Khardung La, Ladakh
We were a team of 18 ladies, energetic and cheerful ( and damn stylish if I may add? 😉 ) on our way back to Leh from Nubra valley. We had previously
visited Hunder valley, rode huge Bactrian camels, had spent a beautiful night in tent overlooking bright night sky, star-gazing like we had never done before.
In the morning, we had gone to Diskit monastery and were getting back to our base in Leh, from where, we were supposed to go to Pangong Tso the next day.
But the weather had a different plan. It started snowing heavily.
We were stranded in the mountain pass for nearly 18 hours. Being new to this experience of getting stuck in snow was bit shocking to many, but we kept our cool. We had little choice…it was freezing! 😛
Weather became worse, we saw a truck getting stuck just in the road above us. Suddenly we saw military jawans. And dozers. Our Angels. In minutes, the roads were cleared so that enough space for one car could be managed. Traffic started again. Finally, at around 9 PM in the evening, we were able to come near the pass. We went to Pangong Tso the next day. A separate post coming soon… 🙂
We again saw our saviors. Standing in the cold night, guarding and guiding all those who were stuck, assuring those who were stranded on their way home. The smile from their faces not fading and not tired to return the salutes from all of us. They are truly made of great.
Place: Neil Island, Andaman
We were on our way from Havelock to Neil Island. I fell down and broke my foot (funnily, I was not aware of it then 😀 ) , details of the post here 🙂 We went to the nearest Govt health center. The person at the desk not only helped me with the necessary medicines but also, asked me not to let this stop me from exploring the island. Looking back now, I think that assurance was made of great.
I always wanted to travel to Ladakh. It was a dream from the times I saw the pictures in some travel magazines. But my parents could not accompany me due to health issues. I was sad, because I knew how much my entire family loves to travel. And not being able to go to Ladakh, that they raved due to health issues was real depressing. Nevertheless, they encouraged me to take the trip by myself. My mom brought me a pair of gloves. Dad brought me the backpack. The same mom, who still cries when I am hurt, the same dad, who gets anxious when I am late from work, and asks me every time before I go out, if I have not forgotten my mobile phone. 🙂 I understood how anxious they were about letting me go on my own, but at the same time, how much they wanted me to go ahead and catch our dream. I can sort of feel how much courage they had to muster to give me the nod. Parents, who else are the more worthy to receive the title of #madeofgreat ? 🙂
So, my dear friend, do you have anyone who you think are made of great? Let me know in the comments section below 🙂
